About The Position

The position involves preparing and maintaining exam rooms, preparing charts, obtaining reports and records, assisting with patient flow, and ensuring the overall smooth running of the clinical office. The role includes direct interaction with patients in a clinic setting, performing tasks such as obtaining vital signs, conducting EKGs, completing phlebotomy, and verifying medications. The Medical Assistant will assist with examinations, procedures, and lab tests, and may administer medications under the order of physicians or nurse practitioners. The position also includes communication and documentation responsibilities, equipment and supply management, and maintaining compliance with HIPAA and OSHA regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
  • Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with six months of related work experience.
  • Medical Assistant credentials must be obtained from in-person proctored exams from certifying bodies such as NHA, AAMA, or AMT.
  • Ability to show proof of a Medical Assistant certification/registration within six months of hire date.
  • Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts directly with patients in clinic setting and completes tasks, which may include obtaining vital signs, conducting EKGs, completing a phlebotomy and verifying medications.
  • Prepares for office hours by obtaining charts, scheduling tests, and preparing exam rooms.
  • Assists with examinations, procedures, and lab tests.
  • May assist with renewal and authorization of non-narcotic medications per standing orders and department guidelines.
  • May administer medications under the order of physicians or nurse practitioners.
  • Schedules and assigns work to other Medical Assistants to ensure appropriate staffing.
  • Directs patient flow and assists with special procedures/treatments.
  • Completes necessary paperwork and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Answers basic questions from patients/family regarding treatments, diagnosis, and procedures.
  • Monitors supply inventory, ensuring adequate supplies and compliance with regulations.
  • Cleans and stocks exam rooms and sterilizes instruments.
  • Maintains required HIPAA compliance and participates in continuing education and cross-training programs.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes.
