About The Position

Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of physician. The role involves maintaining patient flow during clinic hours, documenting review of systems, measuring vital signs, updating medical histories, and correctly recording patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR). The Medical Assistant may also assist in training new employees, prepare patient charts for visits, and manage medication refills and authorizations. Additional responsibilities include maintaining clean examination rooms, ordering medical supplies, and responding to patient inquiries through various communication channels.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or previous Medical Assisting experience required.
  • 2 to 5 years MA or other relevant experience preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, EMR and scheduling systems) required.
  • Strong verbal and social skills to work respectfully with patients, physicians, visitors, co-workers, and drug reps.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to other physician offices as requested.
  • BLS certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree and/or Certified/Registered MA preferred.
  • Complementary clinical skills such as phlebotomy, performing EKGs, stitches removal, splinting, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in examination and treatment of patients under direction of physician.
  • Maintain patient flow during clinic hours.
  • Document review of systems and measure vital signs.
  • Update past and current medical, social, and family history.
  • Review medications and update medication list at each visit.
  • Correctly record patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Prepare patient charts in EMR for visits.
  • Access and navigate websites or call outside facilities to obtain necessary information.
  • Refill medications and pre-authorize medications as needed.
  • Maintain recording of patient samples and dispose of expired medications.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  • Order medical supplies as needed.
  • Complete patient assistance paperwork/requests.
  • Obtain pertinent medical information from patients.
  • Return calls and respond to MyChart as needed.
  • Work in-baskets, daily work flow logs, and work queues in EMR/Practice Management system.
  • Answer incoming calls, schedule appointments, and check-in and out patients.
  • Operate EKG, cardiac monitors, and other equipment for routine diagnostic tests.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment.
