SUMMARY Under general supervision, performs expanded and advanced level medical assistant duties including but not limited to identifying and resolving concerns regarding patient satisfaction, patient flow, and compliance with procedures and guidelines. Typically provides direct clinical support to one or more clinicians. Demonstrating a high level of competence provides back-up coverage for support staff. Works to improve clinical efficiencies of the operation by determining urgency and priority of walk-ins, add-on patients and patient consults. Provides direct clinical and clerical support to clinicians. In some cases may support more than one department.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit or a Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • Experience typically acquired through three years in a clinical setting with at least one as a Medical Assistant (a bachelor’s or associate degree may be substituted for one year of experience).
  • Computer experience required with the ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience required.
  • Able to communicate in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to be a quick thinker and relate to all levels of staff and patients highly important.
  • Ability to prioritize work throughout the day in a busy environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in medical assisting or graduate of medical assistant certification program preferred.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
