About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Advocate Health is a full-time role within the Family Medicine department, specifically in the GCMG South End Family Medicine clinic. The position requires adherence to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, following all policies and procedures, and maintaining training and competency based on the area of specialty when providing patient care. The role involves performing various clinical tasks such as rooming patients, taking vital signs, medication reconciliation, and assisting providers with procedures. The Medical Assistant will also handle lab-related duties, administer medications and vaccines, and ensure a clean and well-stocked work environment. The position operates Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 5 PM, with no weekend hours, and is eligible for a sign-on bonus. The pay range for this position is $22.50 to $33.75 per hour.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent military training.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
  • Certification as a CMA or RMA by recognized national organizations.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification may be required within 1 year in select areas.
  • Demonstrates professional practice advancement through professional governance or safety coaching.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Performs lab-related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection, and results tracking.
  • Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are appropriately stocked.
  • May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication and teamwork.
