About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Advocate Health is a part-time role requiring 25 hours per week, with a flexible schedule from Monday to Friday between 7 AM and 7 PM. The role involves adhering to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, following all policies and procedures, and maintaining training and competency based on the area of specialty when providing patient care. Responsibilities include performing rooming/visit tasks, assisting providers with procedures, conducting lab-related duties, administering medications and vaccines, and ensuring effective communication and teamwork. The position also requires maintaining a clean work environment and ensuring that equipment and supplies are in working order.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent military training.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
  • Recognized or certified as a CMA or RMA by a national organization.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification may be required in select areas.
  • Demonstrates professional practice advancement through professional governance.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Performs lab-related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking.
  • Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are appropriately stocked.
  • May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
