About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Advocate Health involves adhering to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, following all policies and procedures, and maintaining training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care. Responsibilities include performing rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings. The role also involves assisting providers with procedures, performing lab-related duties, administering medications and vaccines, and maintaining a clean work environment. The position requires effective communication, teamwork, and the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent military training.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
  • Certification as a CMA or RMA by recognized national organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification may be required within 1 year in select areas.
  • Demonstrates professional practice advancement through professional governance, safety coach, super-user, vaccine coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking.
  • Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication and teamwork.
  • Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are appropriately stocked.
  • May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
