About The Position

At Franciscan, our Medical Assistant are critical for supporting a variety of clinical duties for multiple ambulatory clinics. This role assists providers and staff in coordinating patient care, scheduling appointments, executing physician orders for lab testing, entering information in electronic medical record system, and functions as a liaison between patients, coworkers, and providers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assisting program required.
  • In lieu of program, 5 years of medical assistant experience.
  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) certification from American Heart Association.
  • Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) certification from Indiana Department of Transportation.
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification from American Allied Health.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
  • Medical Assistant (RMA) certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification from American Registry of Medical Assistants.
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) certification from National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP).
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) certification from National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification from National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers and staff in coordinating patient care.
  • Schedule appointments and execute physician orders for lab testing.
  • Enter information in electronic medical record system.
  • Function as a liaison between patients, coworkers, and providers.
  • Room patients and take vitals.
  • Obtain a comprehensive medical history.
  • Document care of patient via electronic medical record.
  • Administer vaccines, injections, and medications.
  • Perform phlebotomy and point of care testing.
  • Conduct medication reconciliation under the supervision of RN/Provider.
  • Gather requirements from internal and external customers.
  • Provide information via phone, electronic messaging, and in person.
  • Initiate and follow through on prior authorizations and referrals.
  • Process sample medications, prescriptions, and refills as directed.
