About The Position

The Medical Assistant I for Outpatient Psychiatry at Mass General Brigham will assist clinicians with daily clinical tasks, including providing patient education, responding to patient requests, helping with prescriptions, and facilitating communications between patients, families, providers, and outside agencies. The role involves working closely with a team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and psychologists, under the general direction of the Medical Director and Practice Manager. This part-time position (20 hours per week) supports patient care in child psychiatry and offers the opportunity to combine with another part-time MA position in adult outpatient psychiatry.

Requirements

  • Interest in mental health and basic knowledge of common psychiatric conditions and medications.
  • Two years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Psychiatric experience.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Epic experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clinicians with daily clinical tasks such as providing patient education and responding to patient requests.
  • Help with prescriptions and facilitate communications between patients, families, providers, and outside agencies.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for psychiatric medications by extracting clinical information from patient charts.
  • Perform outreach to outside entities to facilitate care.
  • Administer psychiatric assessment tools as requested by practice clinicians.
  • Collect vital signs and weights for clinic patients as needed.
  • Follow up with patients who miss appointments and document relevant information in EMR.
  • Respect and support patient and family's cultural beliefs and values.
  • Precept and mentor new team members as needed.
  • Perform necessary quality assurance and maintain clinical knowledge and skills.
