The Medical Assistant assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. This role involves interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and recording information on patients' charts. The Medical Assistant may serve as a preceptor for clinical staff and may be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Additionally, the Medical Assistant coordinates patient flow, schedules appointments, procedures, tests, and referrals, working under close supervision.
