About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at University Health Services is designed to assist healthcare professionals in delivering patient care services and performing clinical skills as ordered by medical providers. This role is part of Healthyhorns, which aims to enhance the health and well-being of students at UT Austin. The position is expected to continue for an 11.5-month work year, with unpaid time off for approximately two weeks each academic year. The work is conducted on the UT Main Campus, and the role requires a commitment to providing high-quality patient care in a safe and clean environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, current Medical Assistant Certification (CMA or CCMA).
  • CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience using electronic medical records.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with a varied community and provide services from a non-judgmental perspective.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • More than one year of experience using electronic medical records.
  • More than one year of experience in an ambulatory, outpatient or urgent care clinic, emergency room, or college health setting.
  • Demonstrated good communication skills, interpersonal skills, team-building skills, and professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the evaluation and care of patients to be seen by UHS providers.
  • Performs department specific procedures and treatments per UHS Policies and Procedures.
  • Exhibits customer service-oriented behavior and excellent public relations skills.
  • Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance pattern.
  • Maintains a level of knowledge conducive to providing high quality patient care.
  • Actively participates in maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
