This position is responsible for assisting in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management. Requirements

High school diploma/GED equivalent required.
Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants required.
Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants.
Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care.
Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
Skill in taking vital signs.
Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
Ability to maintain quality control standards including, but not limited to confidentiality.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

Prepare patients for examination and treatment.
Take patient vital signs.
Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies.
Give injections, apply splints and dressings.
Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
Register and log incoming referrals.
Facilitate and log out going referrals.
Patient check in, check out and eligibility verification.
Communicate and collect copayments and/or balances.
Follow office scheduling policies.
Prepare charts for upcoming appointments.
Complete appointment confirmations
Mail After Visit Summaries (AVS).
Obtains insurance authorizations for office appointments.
Relay provider communications to patients by phone or mail.
Provide general information on departmental policies and procedures.
Maintain patient files, records and other information.
Compile and condense technical and statistical data for reports and records.
Backup surgery scheduling and procedure authorizations.
Attend required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Follow all MA competencies.
