About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Medical Assistant, Front/Back Office, Administrative Assistant 1, UNLV Student Wellness [R0150193] ROLE of the POSITION Student Wellness at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas seeks a full-time Front & Back Office Medical Assistant I, to join our health care team at the Student Health Center and Faculty and Staff Treatment (FAST) Center. The AAI Office Medical Assistant duties include but are not limited to: Front Office Duties Accurately schedule, re-schedule, cancel, and confirm appointments. Enter and update patient/client data into the electronic health record (EHR), forms and reports. Verify, obtain and maintain patient/client demographics. Perform check-in and check-out procedures. Assist and guide patients/clients with patient portal system. Trouble shoot portal use issues and resolve portal concerns. Accept and process payments according to department procedures. Perform assigned clinic opening and closing procedures. Assists as required during daily reconciliation process. Follow and complete individual daily closing and reconciliation process per department policy and procedure. Maintain and update SWC patient accounts in a timely manner and organized format. Assist in the preparing and mailing of patient billing statements as requested by the Accounting Assistant, Associate Director or the Director of Business & Administration. Reception Duties and Customer Service Greet patients, clients, and visitors upon entering the Student Wellness Center. Provide accurate general information about SWC and its services. Treat patients with compassion and empathy. Control flow, monitor and manage entry into clinic area. Answer telephones, emails, instant messages and assist with requests resulting from inquiries. Retrieve and respond to messages (phone, in-person, electronic). Coordinate deliveries, patient/client/guest/visitor flow with internal departments. Ensure a neat, clean and professional appearance of the lobby, check-in, and front desk areas. Report work orders, or hazards. Prioritize and perform multiple tasks as needed in the clinic. Adjust work schedule as needed, based on patients, staffing, and clinical need Effectively and efficiently use the SHC/FAST Center electronic health records system. Maintain proper (e.g., correct spelling, clear and definitive statements) legible documentation and clinical records. Comply with the SHC/FAST Center’s policies, procedures, and accreditation standards. Participate in infection prevention assessments and safety drills. Comply with quality assurance practices. Strictly uphold the confidentiality of health information and protect patients’ right to privacy. Back Office: Apply principles of universal precautions, aseptic technique, and infection control Assist healthcare providers with treatments, examinations, and procedures Comply with quality assurance practices Complete laboratory requisitions ensuring all relevant information is included along with supporting documentation (e.g., copies of insurance cards) when indicated. Follow up on patient test results under the guidance of healthcare provider/RN Participate in infection prevention assessments and safety drills Perform accurate and thorough patient intakes with minimal spelling errors and review patient history, vital signs, and medications. Perform and maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment Perform diagnostic tests such as vision screening, EKG, and spirometry as recommended by the reason for patient visit. Prepare and administer injections and immunizations per SHC policy and procedure Prepare patients for medical examinations and medical procedures Prepare, maintain, and stock examination and treatment areas Prioritize and perform multiple tasks as needed in the clinic Recognize and respond to emergencies in collaboration with the healthcare provider team Strictly uphold the confidentiality of health information and protect patients’ right to privacy Teach patients methods of health promotion and disease prevention Treat patients with compassion, empathy, and professionalism

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a medical assistant program (or related education and experience within a healthcare setting) are required.
  • Must have valid CPR certification.
  • All candidates must pass a background screening.
  • Employees of the UNLV Student Wellness Center must be in compliance with our Employee Exposure to Communicable Disease (Prevention of) Policy and Immunization Compliance Manager.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
