POSITION SUMMARY As a Medical Assistant at Recovery Works NW, you will provide on-site clinical support to medical staff by ensuring the smooth operation of the medical department, serving as a point of contact between medical providers and patients whenever possible, and collaborating closely with other support staff to promote a positive patient experience. This position functions as a float Medical Assistant and requires regular on-site presence and flexibility to provide coverage and support at various Recovery Works NW locations as needed to meet operational and patient care needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current Medical Assistant credential recognized by the State of Oregon (e.g., CMA, RMA, CCMA, or MA-R/MA-C, as applicable) or ability to obtain required credentialing within a defined onboarding period
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of onboarding
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a clinical healthcare setting (primary care, behavioral health, or SUD treatment preferred)
  • Experience performing core MA duties, including vital signs, specimen collection, injections, and clinical documentation
  • Basic proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems
  • Ability to work on-site and travel between clinic locations as for float coverage
  • Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with diverse patient populations, including individuals with substance use disorders
  • Demonstrated understanding of patient confidentiality requirements, including HIPAA (knowledge of 42 CFR Part 2 preferred)
  • Ability to meet physical and scheduling demands of the role, including standing, walking, lifting clinical supplies, and maintaining consistent attendance
  • Position is contingent on passing an OHA Background check and successful completion of a urine analysis (UA) after accepting job offer

Responsibilities

  • Room and prepare patients for appointments in accordance with clinic protocols and supervisory guidelines
  • Collect and document initial patient information to support provider assessment and treatment planning
  • Obtain and record vital signs in compliance with clinical standards
  • Perform specimen collection and accurately enter results into the electronic health record (EHR) per established procedures
  • Submit prior authorization requests for medications and ensure timely follow-up on all authorization determinations
  • Complete and respond to all prior authorization requests by the end of each business day
  • Prepare and administer injections, including anesthetics and medications, in accordance with provider orders and scope of practice
  • Communicate with patients, pharmacies, and community partners in a compassionate, trauma-informed, and professional manner
  • Respond to all patient phone inquiries, pharmacy medication requests, and pharmacy-related issues by the end of each business day
  • Accurately document all patient encounters, communications, and clinical activities in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all records related to client treatment in compliance with HIPAA , 42 CFR Part 2 requirements, and applicable regulations
  • Ensure all assigned tasks, documentation, and communications are completed by the end of each business day
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment and adhere to infection prevention and control standards, including those established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
