About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) Float is responsible for assisting physicians, PA, or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care, and procedures for our Multi-Specialty Clinics. The role includes preparing examination rooms, maintaining patient flow, ensuring proper preparation for patient visits, and communicating care consistent with the patient's needs. The MA Float will also handle scheduling appointments, stocking examination rooms, reconciling encounters, and documenting vital signs and medication lists in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Additionally, the position requires flexibility with various work schedules and the ability to perform duties that may not be directly assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate/GED / Equivalent Work or Vocational / Technical School / Diploma required.
  • 0-1 year related work experience required; 2-4 years preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or within 30 days of hire required.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required.
  • Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner required.
  • Basic proficiency in computer use required.
  • Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed required.

  • Associate Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the examination room and escorts patients into the room.
  • Maintains efficient patient flow.
  • Ensures proper preparation for patient visits.
  • Prepares pertinent information needed for patient visits.
  • Communicates and provides care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient.
  • Answers the telephone appropriately and directs calls or takes accurate messages.
  • Schedules appointments accurately according to departmental guidelines.
  • Stocks examination rooms with necessary supplies.
  • Orders and maintains supplies as assigned.
  • Reconciles encounters daily according to policy guidelines.
  • Communicates problems or concerns to the Supervisor and/or Manager.
  • Obtains vital signs and documents appropriately in EHR.
  • Reviews and updates medication lists and documents allergies in EHR.
  • Enters orders and schedules appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR.
  • Provides referrals and/or consult orders in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications.
  • Maintains proficiency with department-specific equipment.
  • Facilitates transition of care to UCC/Hospital.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with various work schedules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
