Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification through American Medical Technologists
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification through National Healthcareer Association
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) certification through National Center for Competency Testing
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) certification through National Association for Health Professionals
  • Basic typing skills and the ability to use computer software systems
  • Basic Life Support/CPR training, certification, or the ability to become certified

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, complete and verify forms, and direct patients to exam rooms
  • Take vital signs and document information in the electronic medical records system
  • Assist with examinations and procedures and complete necessary cleanup
  • Implement provider orders (immunizations, testing, obtaining lab specimens, documenting results, etc.)
  • Tactfully deal with patients undergoing treatment in stressful situations
  • Follow directions and work effectively with professional and paraprofessional staff
  • Manage time effectively
  • Manage clinic flow for assigned providers
  • Prepare charts for visits, file patient information, and assist with medical records duties
  • Retrieve and distribute results to healthcare providers, laboratories, and medical records as directed
  • Give abnormal results to provider
  • Request test results and referral information from other offices and update patients' charts accordingly
  • Contact patients who are due for services and schedule appointments
  • Sterilize and clean equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
