About The Position

The Medical Assistant at Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health performs patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in an ambulatory care setting. This role is essential in supporting the operational issues of the practice and ensuring effective communication with patients and their families. The Medical Assistant will gather patient data, assist during examinations, document treatments, and maintain compliance with health policies.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school or verifiable applicable work experience in a patient care setting.
  • Maintains current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
  • If hired after January 1, 2015, maintains current certification by one of the following agencies within 6 months of hire: CCMA, CMA, CMAC, NCMA, NRCMA, RMA.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
  • Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
  • Works collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.
  • Gathers patient data through interviews and observation.
  • Assists patients and families with preparation for examination.
  • Assists the physician or APP during examination and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
  • Documents treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department specific policies.
  • Acts as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule and provide information for specialty testing and consultations.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
  • Enters medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under the direction of a provider.
  • Adheres to compliance with Orlando Health and department specific policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Demonstrates personal and patient safety practices and adherence to infection control standards.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance and Quality Indicator activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Practices the efficient use of supplies.
  • Assists business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.
