About The Position

NOTE: This position will be a hybrid Medical Assistant/Patient Access Coordinator based on business needs, so job flexibility is required. The Patient Access Coordinator makes patient appointments and reminder calls. Greets and registers and checks in or out all patients. Verifies demographic and insurance coverage information and enters into appropriate system/patient record. Collects co-pays and other payments and prepares daily deposit & reconciliation report. Receives and accurately and timely relays all phone messages to and from providers and logs them appropriately. Also provides clerical/secretarial support to the office as needed by typing correspondence and reports, sorting and delivering mail, processing incoming and outgoing faxes and ordering and maintaining supplies. The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, and facilitating patient flow. Additional duties involve managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. Upon successful completion of clinical competency, the role may also require performing EKGs, lab tests, injections, and/or phlebotomy. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to ensure efficient patient care and support for providers. This role requires regular on-site presence to perform the essential job functions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency
  • 1+ year(s) of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required. Experience must include direct, hands-on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG’s, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines).
  • Or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required.
  • Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation.
  • Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus.
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
  • BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP.
  • Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current unrestricted licensure.
  • Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation.
