About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Medical Assistant Extern to join our team for a short-term placement of 4 to 10 weeks. As a Medical Assistant Extern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting, assisting healthcare professionals and contributing to the overall patient care process. This externship offers valuable learning opportunities to enhance your medical knowledge and practical skills while working under the guidance of experienced medical staff.
North Clinic Location: 1101 Camino La Costa, Austin, TX 78752
Schedule: Monday – Friday, approximately 15 to 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined based on clinic needs and extern's availability.
Compensation: Unpaid Internship/University or Program Credit

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in one of our affiliated Medical Assistant School Programs and in the section of the course that requires completion of 80 – 180 hours of clinical experience.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
• Professionalism and a positive attitude.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
• Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly with patients in person and over the telephone.
• Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
• Other: Requires occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted. Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, with some lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted throughout the regular workday.

Responsibilities

• Observe and assist the Medical Assistant in performing clinical duties, such as taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and preparing patients for exams.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment by following infection control procedures and regulations.
• Observe and assist the Medical Assistant in performing administrative duties, such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, and maintaining patient records.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure smooth patient flow and efficient clinic operations.
• Learn and follow clinic policies and procedures to ensure high-quality patient care.
• Assist with patient education by providing information on medications, procedures, and post-care instructions.
• Participate in relevant training and educational sessions offered during the externship period.
• Take initiative to learn from medical professionals and actively seek opportunities for skill development.
• Attend and participate in educational opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
