About The Position

The Medical Assistant Course Lead will be responsible for the instruction and management of the medical assistant course. The Medical Assistant Course Lead will maintain competency and professionalism within their specialized field, including required certifications. These certifications must remain current and in good standing.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in allied health or an associate degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • No disciplinary action against professional licensure
  • Two years of allied health work experience
  • Demonstrate current knowledge in course content and effectiveness in teaching assigned subjects.
  • Experience working with accreditation organizations.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Currently certified as a medical assistant from a nationally accredited organization
  • Experience in a leadership role in a professional organization.
  • Knowledge of a Learning Management System (such as Canvas).
  • Experience with Colleague.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current knowledge and skill in field of specialization and areas of instruction.
  • Maintain professionalism and vocational certifications, as required by position and by the State of Missouri.
  • Assist the Program Director with program development and revisions.
  • Provide oversite of all Medical Assistant/classes
  • Mentor medical assistant instructors, as needed.
  • Audit classroom instruction of the medical assistant course.
  • Provide clinical site visits as needed and permitted.
  • Provide feedback to part-time instructors within the medical assistant staff
  • Provide quality instruction which is reflective of current discipline standards and is accurate, relevant, and engaging using college/state –approved curriculum and resources.
  • Develop and/or update the course syllabus for all medical assistant courses.
  • Incorporate pedagogical strategies such as active learning, authentic and problem-based activities, and other successful teaching strategies into classroom instruction.
  • Foster a positive classroom learning environment by presenting information in a way that is inclusive to all learners.
  • Present program content in an unbiased and civil manner, while demonstrating respect, helpfulness, and responsiveness toward students.
  • Participate in required number of hours of professional development each year.
  • Demonstrate reflective practice, including assessment of student learning. This includes ongoing formative assessments, as well as official departmental assessment.
  • Actively participate in department and division meetings, events, and initiatives.
  • Maintain supplies needed for the medical assistant course and coordinate orders with the Allied Health Program Director.
  • Recruit medical assistant staff as needed to effectively maintain active courses.
  • Assist with accreditation processes.
  • Provide accurate and appropriate academic advising.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including participating in commencement, attending college functions, serving on committees and attending community events.
