About The Position

The Medical Assistant Coordinator performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a licensed provider, RN, or LPN. This role involves routine and complex medical assistant clinical duties, including taking vital signs, administering a limited profile of medications, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms in an outpatient care setting. The coordinator promotes a supportive and healing environment, assists in emergency situations, and maintains a clean and healthy environment. Additionally, the role includes patient and practice administrative duties such as patient check-in/out, chart preparation, point-of-service collection, scheduling various appointments, uploading imaging and records, precertification for procedures, handling Zendesk requests, managing the bump list, answering calls, and processing charge entry admin pool messages. All duties are performed in accordance with Emory Healthcare patient and family centered care standards. The position may also involve participation in research projects impacting patient care areas and other related responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Current AHA BLS certification is required for hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Current certification as one of the following is required: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Successfully complete all medical assistant orientation and training requirements and annual skills competency.

Nice To Haves

  • One year work experience preferred.
  • Preferred certification is the CMA or RMA.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a licensed provider, RN, or LPN.
  • Perform routine and more complex medical assistant clinical duties to include, but not limited to, taking vital signs, administering a limited profile of medications per The Emory Clinic approved policy, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms in an outpatient care setting.
  • Promote a supportive and healing environment to enhance customer and staff satisfaction.
  • Assist in emergency situations as directed by a licensed provider, RN, or LPN.
  • Maintain a clean and healthy environment in compliance with Universal Precaution guidelines and safety standards.
  • Order, verify, and store unit supplies.
  • Perform patient and practice administrative duties including: patient check in/out, chart prep, POS collection, scheduling follow-up appointments, scheduling ancillary & procedure appointments, uploading imaging and records, precertification for procedures, Zendesk requests, bump list, answering calls, and charge entry admin pool messages.
  • Perform all duties and patient interaction in accordance with Emory Healthcare patient and family centered care standards.
  • May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as required.
