About The Position

This position is responsible to verify patient information, assisting the clinic medical staff but primarily for supporting patient visits. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for setting up outside referrals and coordinating patient records with outside providers for the Clinic. Perform all clinic duties as dictated by department needs, especially in times of absences by co-workers, at times of high patient volume and/or times of increased workload.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in a health care degree program and/or an active certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA), preferred
  • Work experience of three (3) or more years as a medical assistant, preferably in a health/clinical setting; preferred but not limited to
  • Working knowledge of sensitivity communication practices and interview techniques in order to speak with and for the patient
  • Current CPR/BLS certification or shall obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of electronic health records
  • Technical skills of an Intermediate or higher user of MS office software, computers, and office equipment

Responsibilities

  • Provides exceptional customer service while receiving and assists patients; places patients into rooms; directs appropriate patient records for provider review prior to service delivery.
  • Taking and recording Vital Signs: Measuring and recording patient information like temperature, blood pressure, weight, and pulse.
  • Recording Medical Histories: Gathering patient information about their past and present medical conditions
  • Preparing Patients for Examination: Helping patients get ready for provider’s visits.
  • Assisting with Examinations and Procedures: Providing support to providers during examinations, such as handing them instruments or positioning patients.
  • Administering Medications: Under the direction of a licensed provider, CMAs may administer medications via injections.
  • Performing Basic Laboratory Tests: Perform EKGs and Point of Care labs.
  • Wound Care: Assisting with wound care, including dressing changes and suture removal.
  • Schedules patient appointments; verifies appointments prior to service date, schedules referral appointments, including diagnostic testing, and coordinates patient’s records with outside providers.
  • Answers and logs incoming telephone calls for the Clinic Psychologist, directs calls to appropriate clinic personnel or takes detailed messages and delivers to personnel; and Assists with triage of incoming calls for acuity of concern and priority appointments.
  • Prepare and update client charts 24 hours prior to daily schedule, maintain information according to chart format, and file charts after final disposition of service.
  • Performs all related patient data entry as directed in the RPMS system.
  • Assists with bi-annual clinic eligibility audit.
  • Maintains supplies, inventory records of incoming supplies, prescribed medication samples, and items provided to patients under the direction of providers.
  • Perform all duties in support of Clinic Providers as needed.
  • Prepare and clean treatment rooms and medical instruments.
  • Obtain Prior Authorizations from insurance companies for testing and medications.
  • Facilitates the dissemination of information regarding department programs and assists with client health education as needed.
  • Maintains professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of work and complies with all applicable tribal, federal, or state laws and procedures.
