About The Position

Heart South is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in an ambulatory care setting. This role supports clinical operations by assisting with patient preparation, examinations, procedures, and documentation while delivering exceptional patient-centered care. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Successful completion of an approved Medical Assistant training programOR
  • At least one (1) year of verifiable Medical Assistant experience in a patient care setting
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification required
  • Current Medical Assistant certification or registration from one of the following (or equivalent):
  • CMA (AAMA)
  • CCMA (NHA)
  • RMA (AMT or equivalent)
  • NCMA (NCCT)
  • NRCMA/NRCAMA (NAHP)
  • Other recognized MA certifications considered on a case-by-case basis
  • No prior experience required

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient care activities under the direction of the physician or APP
  • Gather patient data through interviews and observation
  • Prepare patients and families for examinations and procedures
  • Assist providers during exams and clinical procedures
  • Administer approved medications and perform routine treatments per scope of practice
  • Document patient information, treatments, procedures, and education in the electronic medical record
  • Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders as directed by providers
  • Manage inbound and outbound phone calls using sound clinical judgment
  • Coordinate scheduling for specialty testing and provider referrals
  • Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and operations teams
  • Support infection control, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain compliance with all organizational, clinical, and regulatory standards
