About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in the Urgent Care setting is responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers in the delivery of prompt, compassionate, and efficient care to patients with acute medical needs. This position plays a key role in assisting with examinations, procedures, diagnostics, and patient education while maintaining accurate medical records and ensuring a safe, clean, and well-stocked clinical environment. The CMA serves as a vital link between patients, providers, and the care team, supporting high-quality care in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting. The Phlebotomist in the Urgent Care setting is responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism. This role supports urgent care providers by collecting, labeling, and processing laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing while maintaining quality control and patient safety standards. The Phlebotomist ensures proper specimen handling and documentation, provides compassionate patient interactions, and contributes to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the clinical team in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • None
  • Proficient in operating computers, phones, and office equipment.
  • Familiar with insurance regulations and medical terminology.
  • Knowledgeable in filing procedures and record documentation.
  • Skilled in using various software applications, including Microsoft Word and EPIC electronic health records.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. The ability to work with a culturally diverse population is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Practice under the direct supervision of a licensed physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner, performing tasks in outpatient settings as issued and approved.
  • Not triage, make clinical assessments, or exercise independent clinical judgment.
  • Assisting providers with patient care, electronic medical record (EMR) documentation, charting, ordering tests, handling prior authorization for referrals and medications, and refilling medications.
  • Administering immunizations, assisting with procedures, and providing patient education.
  • Serving as an ongoing preceptor, aiding in the onboarding, training, and technical development of new staff.
  • Reviewing charts and confirming medical records and referrals are available for patients.
  • Check patients into exam rooms and obtain pertinent information, including vitals and medication histories.
  • Prepare for examinations and procedures by setting up required supplies and instruments, assisting providers as needed while ensuring proper cleaning and sterilization.
  • Maintain and stock medical supplies in exam rooms and the clinic supply area, reordering as necessary following the provider’s direction.
  • Perform clinical tasks such as EKGs, spirometry, apply splints, bandages, wound dressings and lab tests as ordered by the provider, presenting results and documenting findings in the EHR.
  • Provide patient education as directed by the provider, including instructions on nebulizer treatments and glucose checks.
  • Assist with procedures such as blood pressure checks and staple/stitch removal as directed by the provider.
  • Stay current with assigned educational requirements and competencies, attending quarterly and annual training as needed.
  • Be flexible with scheduling, including working variable hours such as evenings, weekends, and holidays as workload demands.
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
