This role provides assistance with the examination and treatment of patients, working under the direction of a registered nurse or provider (physician or advanced practice provider). Key responsibilities include performing select clinical duties, interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, and accurately recording this information on patient charts. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for preparing treatment rooms for patient examinations and performing essential clerical duties such as answering phones, maintaining records, scheduling patients, and filing. Additionally, the position involves basic materials management functions, including ordering and stocking supplies, and contributing to a clean and orderly environment. The Medical Assistant may also document the provider's encounters with patients, list proper diagnoses and symptoms, provide follow-up instructions and prescriptions as indicated by the provider, and transcribe patient orders for laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications. The individual is expected to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
