About The Position

Responsible for performing a variety of duties supporting the medical provider (physician and/or mid-level). They may be involved in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification or Registration.
  • Must maintain AHA BLS Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of Clinical Medical Assisting Experience.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients.
  • Gathers pertinent health data through screenings and collects specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Provides basic patient care as ordered; administers medications and treatments as directed.
  • Assists other health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures and treatments, and minor medical procedures.
  • Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
  • Documents screenings, interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical records.
  • Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
  • Checks schedules, organizes patient flow, fulfills clerical responsibilities such as patient registrations, check in/out, scheduling, obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes and referral information.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and patient demographics, stocks exam rooms, sorts supplies.
  • Fulfills responsibilities which may include medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping, and autoclaving.
  • Checks vital signs, prepares for physical exams, verifies prescriptions with Physician's orders.
  • Assists in minor surgeries including surgical tray set-up, pre/post-surgical care, applying dressings, and suture removal.
  • Handles biohazard waste disposal and monitoring, therapeutic modalities, instructing patients with assistive devices, body mechanics and home care.
  • Adheres to the direct supervision of the healthcare provider (Physician and/or mid-level).
