About The Position

The position involves escorting patients to x-ray and exam rooms, monitoring patient flow, and assisting physicians with minor clinical procedures such as staple removal, suture removal, and wound care. Responsibilities also include casting and splinting removal and application as directed by the physician, tracking and ordering supplies, stocking exam rooms and work stations, scheduling diagnostic tests, reviewing and coding charge slips, submitting insurance claims, and returning patient phone calls. The role requires collaboration with all physicians in the Orthopaedic Clinic and performing various office and clerical duties. Essential duties include scheduling patient appointments, obtaining authorizations, maintaining a master calendar for physicians, performing vitals, and entering required information in Cerner. The position also involves developing supporting documentation for insurance claims, covering front desk duties when needed, and ensuring that physician orders for medications and treatments are implemented by appropriate staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Specialized/technical training from an accredited school of Orthopaedic Program.
  • 6 - 12 months of combined education/experience as a substitute for minimum experience.
  • At least 6 months casting experience in an acute care setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialized/technical training from an accredited Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program.
  • Spanish language skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with word processing, IDX, AS400, and scheduling software.
  • 1 year of experience as a medical assistant in an acute care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Cover front desk when needed for breaks, lunches, call outs, vacations.
  • Ensure physician orders for medications and treatments are implemented.
  • Submit all workers compensation and HMO requests.
  • Relay disability status to adjusters and nurse case managers.
  • Check supplies and medications for expiration dates and dispose of them according to standards.
