About The Position

Medical Assistant (MA) provides technical patient care based on the population served as delegated by the Charge Nurse. Duties may include the performance of technical skills as required within an outpatient office setting. The MA will assist the provider and nursing staff in collecting data, preparing patients for exams, administering medications and assisting with procedures. The MA will perform according to the defined policies and procedures for designated practice. Patient confidentiality and safety will be maintained as defined by the hospital department and practice procedures and policy manuals. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant program or CMA/CCMA/RMA certified.
  • Meet eligibility requirements to take CMA/RMA and must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to do fractions, percentages, decimals, and metric conversions.
  • Ability to obtain, read, and interpret data from equipment and communicate findings.
  • Excellent customer service skills in interactions with coworkers and customers.
  • Accuracy and completeness in documentation and performance of tasks.
  • Computer skills to facilitate accurate and efficient documentation in electronic health record.
  • Ability to work as a team member and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to handle confrontational situations with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the provider and nursing staff in collecting data and preparing patients for exams.
  • Administer medications and assist with procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and safety according to hospital policies.
  • Perform basic technical skills in the provision of patient care.
  • Communicate with providers about patient status and interventions.
  • Collect data including weights, vital signs, demographic information, and lab specimens.
  • Utilize clinical equipment in providing care.
  • Enter/retrieve patient data using a computer.
  • Accompany patients during and assist with office procedures.
  • Order, stock, and prepare supplies for patient/clinic utilization.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment.
