About The Position

The Medical Assistant provides caring, professional support to clients and the healthcare team in a welcoming outpatient environment. This role includes assisting with check-ins, taking vital signs, supporting providers during appointments, and maintaining accurate records. The Medical Assistant helps ensure that each visit runs smoothly, providing compassionate service while supporting the clinic’s focus on high-quality, client-centered care.

Requirements

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required to effectively communicate with clients and families
  • High School diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in behavioral health, psychiatry, or outpatient clinic setting strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and recovery-oriented care principles.
  • Excellent communication skills with empathy, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong attention to detail with accurate documentation in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA standards at all times.
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Comfortable working with individuals experiencing mental health or substance use challenges.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Local travel required.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (HIPAA, OSHA) and infection control practices.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving clinical workflows and patient needs.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome clients and help create a calm, supportive, and respectful environment.
  • Check clients in and out, verify insurance, and update demographic and contact information.
  • Take and record vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse, as part of routine intake.
  • Accurately document client information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Assist psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and clinicians during medication management or wellness visits.
  • Manage appointment scheduling, reminders, and follow-ups to support continuity of care.
  • Track and monitor lab work, medication refills, and health screenings as needed.
  • Coordinate communication between clients, prescribers, and therapists professionally and confidentially.
  • Maintain exam rooms and ensure medical supplies are organized and stocked.
  • Support clients with appointment or medication questions while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality, and safety standards.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to a recovery-focused, collaborative clinic environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
