About The Position

UPMC Bedford Internal Medicine is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to support patient care in a busy medical office. This role involves assisting with patient flow, performing clinical tasks, and ensuring compliance with health regulations, all while maintaining a focus on patient confidentiality and care quality.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
  • CPR certification required based on AHA standards within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to the exam/procedure room.
  • Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams, etc.
  • Collect patient information/history; take vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines—relay instructions to patients/families.
  • Send/receive patient medical records per HIPAA and other regulations.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  • Comply with the requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information in the medical record.
  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information including patient education as directed.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • Complete forms/requisitions as needed and schedule appointments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
  • Administer injectable medication and vaccines under the direction and supervision of a physician.
