About The Position

The Medical Assistant - Back Office position at Family HealthCare Network involves supporting and monitoring patient flow in the back office, ensuring efficient operations during patient visits. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year of experience in a medical assistant role or related field.
  • MA Certification required; certification from a medical doctor will be considered.
  • Injection certification required; venipuncture, injection, and skin test certificate can be completed as part of job competencies.
  • Valid California driver's license required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with the frail or elderly population (for PACE program).
  • Ability to prepare complex documents in Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to use Excel for data review and compilation.

Responsibilities

  • Support and monitor patient flow in the back office.
  • Scrub appointments in advance to ensure necessary information is available for patient visits.
  • Assist in the distribution of patients, including walk-ins.
  • Keep patients informed of wait times and ensure proper flow in the system.
  • Schedule patient appointments and follow up on no-show appointments.
  • Review health records with patients and update clinical information.
  • Obtain vital signs and patient data.
  • Initiate follow-up of specialty care referrals and services per policy.
  • Support dispensary functions, including prescription refills and pharmacy calls.
  • Complete necessary clinical forms for patient visits.
  • Maintain continuous communication within the patient care team.
  • Perform important medical tests and procedures on patients.
  • Prepare necessary instruments and obtain consent for procedures.
  • Perform Quality Control of CLIA waived screening equipment.
  • Perform CLIA waived screenings and document in the system.
  • Perform injection techniques and standing orders for immunizations.
  • Perform specimen collection, preparation, and labeling.
  • Obtain medical record releases and process requests.
  • Scan relevant documents into the electronic health record system.
  • Document in the patient's electronic health record according to policy.
  • Prepare and stock exam rooms/lab and monitor supplies.
  • Discard biohazard waste and sharps appropriately.
  • Test and clean sterilization equipment weekly/monthly.
  • Maintain the mobile health unit, including cleaning and restocking.
  • Drive the mobile health unit to designated locations and maintain vehicle logs.
  • Assist disabled passengers and children into and out of the vehicle.
  • Report any vehicle safety or maintenance issues to the supervisor.
