About The Position

The Back Office Medical Assistant position at Medix involves providing essential support in a community health clinic in Los Angeles. The role requires a Spanish bilingual individual to assist with patient care, perform various medical tasks, and ensure effective communication between patients and healthcare providers. The Medical Assistant will work under direct supervision, interacting with patients, performing clinical procedures, and maintaining accurate medical records.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant certification
  • Proficient in blood draws
  • One-year experience in a related field including EMR (Electronic Medical Records)
  • CPR certification
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written
  • Detail-oriented and well organized
  • Customer service skills: communication, empathy, patience, and technical knowledge
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and work well under deadlines
  • Ability to work at multiple clinic sites

Responsibilities

  • Take and record vital signs; report abnormal findings to the provider.
  • Interact with an average of 20 patients a day.
  • Perform venipuncture, EKG, apply/remove dressings and bandages, and collect non-invasive specimens from both adults and children.
  • Assist patients in ambulation/transfer and perform simple lab tests.
  • Read PPD skin tests, perform visual acuity/audiometric screening, and perform finger sticks.
  • Obtain throat swabs, perform ear lavage, and administer medication/vaccines as per company requirements.
  • Prepare consent forms as needed and required.
  • Collect and label specimens; prepare appropriate lab slips with 100% accuracy.
  • Prepare/assist the provider with examination and/or procedures.
  • Provide patient/family education related to treatment and aftercare according to policy and procedures.
  • Explain all procedures and treatments to patients prior to their performance.
  • Adhere to infection control practices: Universal Precautions, Hand Washing, Sterile/Aseptic technique.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in proper use of equipment and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain established stock levels in assigned areas.
  • Discharge and arrange follow-up appointments.
  • Assist Pharmacy Clerk, LVN, and D.O.N. with monthly check medication expiration in the dispensary.
