About The Position

This position is a full-time Medical Assistant role within the Cardiology department at Advocate Health. The role involves adhering to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, following all policies and procedures, and maintaining training and competency based on the area of specialty when providing patient care. Responsibilities include performing rooming/visit tasks, assisting providers with procedures, performing lab-related duties, administering medications and vaccines, and maintaining a clean work environment. The position requires effective communication, teamwork, and the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent military training.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
• Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient computer skills including keyboarding and navigation within a windows operating system.

Nice To Haves

• Certification from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or equivalent.
• Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification may be required within 1 year in select areas.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
• Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
• Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
• Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking.
• Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests.
• Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
• Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, and appointment scheduling.
• Cross trained to perform duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice.
• Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
• Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are appropriately stocked.
