About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Advocate Health involves adhering to the Medical Assistant scope of practice while providing patient care in a pediatric setting. The role includes performing rooming tasks such as taking vital signs, conducting medication reconciliations, and reviewing medical histories. The Medical Assistant will assist providers with procedures, perform lab-related duties including venipuncture and specimen collection, and administer medications and vaccines safely. The position requires effective communication, teamwork, and maintaining a clean work environment. The Medical Assistant may also assist in training new teammates and serve on committees. Knowledge of age-specific care is essential, as is the ability to assess and interpret patient data appropriately.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent military training.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
  • Certification as a CMA or RMA by recognized national organizations.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification may be required within 1 year in select areas.
  • Demonstrates professional practice advancement through professional governance.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, and screenings.
  • Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
  • Performs lab-related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection, and results tracking.
  • Completes CLIA approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing.
  • Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Maintains a clean work environment and ensures instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are appropriately stocked.
  • May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely communication and teamwork.
