About The Position

About the Program: The selected apprentice will receive paid on the job training as a Medical Assistant at a Munson Healthcare facility while completing online education through Penn Fosters 12-month Medical Assistant course. At the completion of the program apprentices will have the opportunity to complete the AAMA certification exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant. In collaboration with Michigan Works!, Munson Healthcare will be covering the cost of the tuition in exchange for a service commitment at the completion of the program. What is a Medical Assistant? A Medical Assistant is an allied health professional who supports Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers in a clinic setting. The role includes both clinical and administrative duties and frequent interaction with patients and their families. Administrative Duties may include: Answering phones Greeting patients Documenting and updating medical records Coding and filling out insurance forms Scheduling appointments Arranging for hospital admissions, referrals and laboratory services Using computer applications Clinical Duties may include: Taking medical histories Explaining treatment and procedures to patients Timely follow through and completion of referral requests Preparing patients for examination Assisting the physician during exams Collecting and preparing lab specimens Performing basic laboratory tests including blood draws Instructing patients via standardized pathways and protocols Preparing and administrating medications as directed by the physician Injections Removing sutures and changing dressings Other clinical services as required by specialty

Requirements

  • Highschool Diploma or GED
  • BLS Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained
  • Munson Healthcare requires all employees be vaccinated or have lab confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella.
  • MHC also requires all employees to receive a flu vaccine during the flu season in the year that they are hired and annually thereafter, or receive an approved medical or religious exemption.
