About The Position

The Medical Assistant Apprentice position at Mason General Hospital is a full-time role designed for individuals interested in becoming a Medical Assistant through a structured apprenticeship program. This position involves working closely with a mentor while performing clinical and clerical duties to support patient care in a primary care setting. The role requires participation in an 8-hour shift schedule from Monday to Friday, with additional weekend labs, and aims to provide a supportive and efficient patient experience.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Selected and enrolled in the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or within 180 days of hire.
• One year of experience working in a physician's office preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage the flow of patients to maximize physician's time and reduce delays.
• Take initial patient history and accurately document vital signs and complaints in the patient's medical record.
• Prepare the patient and room for examination or procedure by the physician.
• Assist the physician with examinations and procedures, including performing phlebotomy and necessary laboratory testing.
• Perform radiological exams and EKG procedures as ordered by the physician.
• Clean patient rooms after visits and procedures, ensuring proper sterilization of instruments.
• Call or fax in prescriptions and handle physician's callbacks on patient test results as directed.
• Monitor and maintain medical equipment in good working order and manage medical stock inventory.
• Complete all tasks and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
