Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Salary Range: $15.55 - $29.50 Union Position: No Department Details Summary The Medical Assistant Apprentice works under the direction of a Medical Assistant mentor for on-the-job training to provide basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. The Medical Assistant Apprentice performs in a manner consistent with the health system's mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. The Medical Assistant Ambulatory (MA) functions within the administration pre-defined scope of practice guidelines per state location of practice. Job Description The Medical Assistant Apprentice focuses on developing clinical and administrative proficiency through mentorship and active learning. Key responsibilities include preparing exam rooms, readying instruments, and assisting providers with various procedures and tests within their scope of practice. Apprentices are responsible for the accurate documentation of patient data, processing orders and prescriptions, and facilitating professional communication between patients and medical staff. Additionally, the role requires managing administrative tasks such as scheduling, billing, and using computer applications, all while maintaining regular attendance and meeting ongoing competency standards to ensure high-quality patient care. Other duties as assigned. The MA in the ambulatory care setting collects subjective and objective health status data from the patient or caregiver and communicates this data to the health care provider. Participates in the care of patients by providing contributing data to licensed health care professionals; and following through on the patient's plan of care under the direction of the provider. Communicates the provider's written instructions for care to the patient, or caregiver, by transmission of specifically defined information. Will participate in care for patients, across the lifespan, in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, treatment, and follow-up as patients move in and out of care settings. Performs a variety of duties under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice medicine. A sampling of the specialized clinical duties performed includes, but is not limited to, obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, observing and reporting patient's signs or symptoms, and performing point of care testing.
