ChristianaCare Medical Group, Delaware Technical Community College & Delaware Workforce Program have partnered together to establish a Medical Assistant Academy Student program! ChristianaCare is offering an exceptional opportunity for 10 caregivers to earn their Medical Assistant diplomas while preparing to sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification exam. Participants will receive paid training throughout this unique program and, upon completion, will have the chance to apply and interview for a Medical Assistant position within ChristianaCare. The program will run from February 16, 2026, through May 8, 2026. Medical Assistant Academy students will participate in in-person classes Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Delaware Technical Community College’s Wilmington Campus. Following classroom instruction, clinical rotations will begin in May 2025 at ChristianaCare locations. Reliable transportation is required to attend classes in Wilmington and travel to various practice sites across the health system. All Medical Assistant Academy students must complete the Accuplacer assessment, a computer-based, adaptive test used by colleges to evaluate readiness in reading, writing, and math. The results are utilized for course placement rather than admissions, ensuring students enroll in classes aligned with their skill levels. What is a Medical Assistant: A Medical Assistant is a healthcare professional who works alongside physicians and advanced practitioners in outpatient and ambulatory settings, such as medical offices and clinics. They perform both administrative and clinical tasks while maintaining direct, patient-facing responsibilities. Compensation: During the Medical Assistant Academy Students will receive a set rate of pay of $16.50/hr., subject to applicable federal, state, and local withholding taxes. Upon completion of Medical Assistant Academy Student who accept a Medical Assistant position with ChristianaCare will receive $19.67/hr., as the new MA rate of pay subject to applicable federal, state, and local withholding taxes. Once enrolled; unsuccessful completion of Medical Assistant Academy Student or work obligation will result in the Medical Assistant Academy Student owing tuition back to ChristianaCare. Enrolled Medical Assistant Academy Student are not eligible to receive the 2026 pay for performance merit increase. PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Medical Assistant Academy is designed to build the skills, competencies, and knowledge required for the Medical Assistant role within The Medical Group of ChristianaCare. Students will learn to perform laboratory, clinical, and medical office procedures through a structured training program that combines classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experience and an externship at ChristianaCare physician practices. Participants function as students enrolled in an accredited college’s Medical Assistant program, and upon successful completion and certification, may be considered for a Medical Assistant position within The Medical Group of ChristianaCare.
