The position is for a Medical Assistant working 32 hours per week, part-time, at Bronson OB-GYN & Midwifery Specialists in Kalamazoo. The role involves providing general nursing functions under the provider's direction, including recording vital signs, immunizations, initial patient assessments, and obtaining concise patient histories. The Medical Assistant will also educate patients and families regarding medications, treatments, and care, and process information in the patient's chart.

Responsibilities

  • Record vital signs, immunizations, and initial patient assessments.
  • Obtain concise patient history and provide clinical information to providers.
  • Educate patients and families regarding medications, treatments, and care.
  • Process and post information to patient's chart.
  • Prepare patients for examination including patient assessment, histories, vital signs, and medication reconciliation.
  • Document pertinent information in chart and maintain documentation standards.
  • Administer treatments as requested by the physician.
  • Obtain specimens for urine testing, phlebotomy, etc.
  • Perform laboratory tests as directed by the physician.
  • Set up and assist physician with procedures.
  • Schedule outside tests or procedures for patients.
  • Prepare patients for tests/procedures by providing appropriate instructions.
  • Coordinate admissions, referrals, and call in prescriptions.
  • Stock exam rooms with supplies as needed.
  • Conduct day-to-day inventory of supplies and report items to be ordered.
  • Assist in the scheduling of appointments in EMR system.
  • Screen calls and determine urgency of appointments.
  • Assist in completion of miscellaneous patient forms.
  • Attend staff, educational, or other meetings as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant program or CMA/CCMA/RMA certified.
  • Meet eligibility requirements to take CMA/RMA and must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification is required within 90 days of hire/transfer.
  • Knowledge of clinical skills as required with Medical Assistant Certification/Registration.
  • Effective problem-solving and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to process information confidentially.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, doctors, and other staff.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Personal computer skills with EMR experience highly desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain positive customer service.
  • Ability to establish effective working relations with physicians, office staff, and employees.
