About The Position

The Clinical Ops Diabetes department is currently seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant 2 to work onsite in Miami. The Medical Assistant 2 performs multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The Medical Assistant 2 assists patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The Medical Assistant 2 provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA 2 to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The incumbent adheres to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The role provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The Medical Assistant 2 works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification in relevant specialty or field
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Commitment to the University’s core values.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Gives injections and treatments and performs routine laboratory tests.
  • Assists in patient care activities such as dressing changes and leg wraps.
  • Prepares treatment room for examination of patient.
  • Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed.
  • Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
  • Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique.
  • Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.
  • Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
  • Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties.
  • Escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Placement of Blood glucose monitoring devices
  • -Downloading of Pump and CGM devices.
  • -Assisting Podiatrist with minor procedures.
  • -Assisting RN/Provider with Endocrine tests.
