Join our Certified Medical Assistant Apprentice Program and gain valuable hands-on experience that will set you up for success in the healthcare industry. Holland Hospital will cover the cost for you to attend the Davenport University 15 week Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Program while you gain hands on experience and practical training in a healthcare setting. The Medical Assistant will: Obtain patient information and vital signs, assist the physician with patient follow-up calls, screen and follow-up with patient test results; maintain medical record information; coordinate patient care information with other health care providers; and obtain prior authorizations. Phone responsibilities may include answering the phone, creating telephone encounters, directing callers to the appropriate person/department, taking messages and scheduling; appointments for the patients. The Medical Assistant may provide coverage for clerical positions as needed. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her area. Why Holland Hospital? Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required
  • Complete Medical Assistant certification within 12 months after hire required
  • Commitment to work for the organization post course completion for one year required

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient information and vital signs
  • Assist the physician with patient follow-up calls
  • Screen and follow-up with patient test results
  • Maintain medical record information
  • Coordinate patient care information with other health care providers
  • Obtain prior authorizations
  • Answering the phone
  • Creating telephone encounters
  • Directing callers to the appropriate person/department
  • Taking messages and scheduling appointments for the patients
  • Provide coverage for clerical positions as needed
  • Greet patients, escort them to examination rooms, and prepare them for medical procedures
  • Take vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse rate, and temperature
  • Obtain patient medical history and relevant information for medical records
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and stocking of necessary supplies
  • Assist healthcare professionals during examinations, treatments, and minor surgical procedures
  • Perform basic lab tests and specimen collection as instructed
  • Administer medications under the direction of healthcare professionals
  • Schedule appointments and manage patient flow to ensure efficient operations
  • Maintain patient records and update electronic health records accurately
  • Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls, taking messages and providing necessary information
  • Assist with billing and coding procedures, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment, ordering and restocking as needed
  • Provide patients with educational materials and instructions as directed by healthcare professionals
  • Explain treatment procedures, medication usage, and preventive healthcare measures to patients
  • Address patient inquiries and concerns within the scope of training and refer complex issues to healthcare professionals
  • Adhere to healthcare regulations, policies, and protocols
  • Follow infection control procedures to maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and uphold patient privacy rights
  • Participate in training sessions and educational programs to enhance skills and knowledge
  • Conduct other duties as assigned by practice leadership and/or medical team
