About The Position

The Medical Administrative Assistant serves as the initial contact for Horizon clients at varying Horizon locations. This position performs administrative and office support activities, these may include collecting demographic information, insurance verification, collecting balances, assisting the billing team, bank deposits, sort and distribute mail, daily filing, archiving old files, processing itemized statement requests, documenting accounts, and financial interviews as needed.

Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • One year of related medical office experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical principles, methods, and procedures to complete work assignments.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information obtained through the course of completing assignments (e.g., and personnel-related issues, projects).
  • Knowledge of medical office practice and environment, including medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Knowledge of electronic calendaring programs (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Credible) for scheduling appointments and setting reminders.
  • Knowledge of medical insurance, government healthcare programs, health insurance claim forms, medical documentation and data entry.
  • Ability to learn the varying complexities of medical billing, including different types of insurance plans and government-assisted programs (Medicare, Medicaid), and local benefits.
  • Knowledge of billing procedures/policy compliance for social service departments, courts, hospitals, employers, insurance carriers, and referring agencies.
  • Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holidays, etc.) as required.
  • Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver's license.
  • May be required to travel to different Horizon work sites during the day based on operational needs or provide admin support at other locations.
  • Regular attendance at training and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites.
