About The Position

The Medical Administration Specialist serves as a Health Administrative Specialist on Duty (HOD) within the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role involves representing the Medical Center Director and the Chief of Health Administration Service in administrative matters during non-standard hours. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring continuity of medical administrative support, managing various administrative issues, and providing technical guidance to meet procedural and legal requirements related to patient care.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-05 level in the normal line of progression for the occupation.
  • Basic knowledge of medical center organization, functions, specialties, and programs.
  • Experience in locating and interpreting regulations from various sources.
  • Ability to review data for trends and make recommendations to management.
  • Strong written communication skills to explain and organize complex issues.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise full authority and responsibility in medical administrative matters on behalf of the Medical Center Director.
  • Represent management in administrative matters pertaining to the lawful retention of veterans.
  • Maintain continuity of functions and provide full medical administrative support during non-standard hours.
  • Achieve management objectives and support decision-making processes.
  • Provide technical guidance to meet procedural, legal, and administrative requirements related to patient care.
  • Process administrative issues surrounding beneficiary deaths, seriously ill cases, elopements, suicides, and other emergencies.
  • Assist with computer issues during non-business hours.
  • Maintain good public and media relations until the designated employee arrives.
  • Conduct analytical studies on operational processes and special projects as assigned.
  • Review data and information for trends and make recommendations to management.
