About The Position

The Media Services Technician plays a diverse and intricate role in Media Services. The general objective of the position is to facilitate the use of technology in the educational process at Skidmore. Support responsibilities include audiovisual (AV) in the classroom and events, as well as required technical support for students, faculty, and staff AV needs. The role requires a high degree of competence in AV technology to perform classroom troubleshooting and the appropriate fulfillment of AV devices for all events. The Technician serves as a member of a team of staff and students to provide classroom and event AV support, as well as technical assistance to individual clients when needed. This position is responsible for providing evening assistance to 15 students who are in support of Media Services. Additionally, this individual must possess strong interpersonal communication, conflict management, and technical writing skills.

Requirements

  • A high degree of technical knowledge of AV hardware and software is required
  • A high degree of technical knowledge of desktop hardware and software required
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience with technology required
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in Media Services required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Experience in providing excellent customer service

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate’s Degree in IT or a related field from a regionally accredited institution is preferred. Certification in IT service and with Audio Visual technology desired.
  • Knowledge of, competency in and familiarity with Extron or similar AV control systems is desired
  • Experience configuring AV control systems is desired
  • Experience working on IT projects and working with AV integrators is desired

Responsibilities

  • Technical Maintenance
  • Maintains a high-level understanding of the diverse technologies supported by the department.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and developments in multimedia classroom technology and equipment.
  • Serves as liaison with students, faculty, and staff for all event and classroom technology requests.
  • Technical Systems Management
  • Responsible for the day-to-day AV operations of the college, including routine preventative maintenance, new hardware installation, and end-user support in multimedia classrooms, labs, conference rooms, study spaces, and auditoria.
  • Validates complex control systems in a variety of AV environments using acquired knowledge of installation, configuration, and commissioning principles.
  • Designs and codes custom touch screen graphical user interfaces to include a wide range of functions for sophisticated AV control systems
  • Event Support
  • Interacts with and provides technical and event support for faculty, staff, students, and guests of the college.
  • Continuous interaction with the event requester to ensure availability, configuration, and support of required AV technology.
  • Quickly adapts to the specific needs of presenters, problem solves, and maintains composure under highly stressful and time intensive conditions.
  • Assures the proper operation of AV equipment used for campus events.
  • Production Services
  • Maintains the technical skills necessary to process audio and/or video content.
  • Facilitates the proper conversion and/or transfer of media between various formats.
  • Assists with the printing of digital images and posters.
  • Collaborates with clients and staff to determine and manage the expected outcomes of production projects.
