About The Position

Will be responsible for enterprise-level media relations, with a specific geographical market assigned as primary. Will possess a thorough understanding of the market they support and provide strategic communications counsel for issues and media inquiries that may arise. This position will be responsible for creating productive relationships with members of the media in their geographic market, resulting in positive coverage of Advocate Health and its care delivery brands. In addition, they will manage external communications for localized crisis issues, in collaboration with leadership, to protect the organization’s reputation. Build extensive internal relationships with leaders and frontline staff in primary market to collaborate on emerging issues and uncover story opportunities. Proactively identify and share compelling stories. Partner closely with other communications team members to provide on-site support to elevate earned media opportunities in primary market, as needed. Work cross-functionally within broader team to contribute to and manage communications efforts for assigned internal clients. This role will monitor and measure media coverage in Charlotte, NC market and make actionable recommendations to leadership that will improve outcomes of communications efforts. Will lead bodies of work that have impacts across the team or are more complex projects. This role will act as a “newsroom manager” for one or more divisions of the organization, accountable for review and oversight of departmental outputs, including quality control, technological support, monitoring, measurement and vendor deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of p rofessional experience in c ommunications, m arketing, j ournalism or other business-related field
  • prior e xperience working with senior leader s highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • This position requires adept media relations skills to craft narratives and messages to protect and enhance the reputation of Advocate Health .
  • Identify and cultivate productive relationships with members of the news media, with an emphasis on assigned geographical market(s) , resulting in positive earned media coverage.
  • Write clear and effective external communications products appropriate for each intended audience, which may include media, social media copy, correspondence , speeches and remarks, op-eds and video scripts .
  • Design and develop communications plans to support organization and business goals that also protect and enhance the reputation of Advocate Health and its related brands.
  • Influence others and build consensus amid differing perspectives and approaches to promote the interests of Advocate Health.
  • Oversee and manage media monitoring and measurement for local market, as well as in the aggregate for one or more divisions of the organization ; develop an appropriate cadence of reporting and strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Collaborate with vendor partners for production of daily news clippings and measurement techniques and assist Leader in ensuring continuity and quality.
  • Evaluate proposals from third parties requesting to make announcements using Advocate Health’s name or brands in public-facing content and make recommendations to leaders regarding participation .
  • Collaborates with Leader and department leadership to develop strategic annual media plans for primary geography .
  • Understands enterprise strategic plan and aligns projects/programs/campaigns/activities accordingly; manages multiple projects independently, drafts recommendations, customizes processes/outputs to audience.
  • Contribute to enterprise thought leadership efforts to support reputation building for the organization’s top leaders ; identify and prepare subject matter experts for high-level events, interviews and other high-profile opportunities.
  • Synthesize complex and wide-ranging information from a range of sources (including liaising with subject matter experts and through independent research and analysis) and translate that information into clear and compelling written material and briefing and prep materials.
  • Produce compelling and creative presentations including for enterprise-wide , regional board and public -facing audiences.
  • Collaborate effectively with teammates, senior staff and executives across the organization, operating with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy.
  • Create high-quality deliverables, ensuring accuracy and excellence in content and presentation , while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Liaise with event organizers for i n order to prepare briefing materials and shape events as needed.
  • Operate with creativity and a persistent approach to problem-solving .
  • Research the health care industry and national trends; provide recommendations to leadership around, potential industry issues and/or brand reputation risks, developing reactive action plans and responses as neede d
  • In collaboration with external communications leadership, monitor and provide executive summaries and reports of media related to customers, competitors and the industry.
  • Support external communications team with priority projects, communications plans and tactics as needed based on need within the department
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners and vendors .
