The Media Relations Director is responsible for generating positive media coverage for Oklahoma City, as well as partnering with internal and external stakeholders to communicate the work of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber. This is a management role and will guide strategy and accountability for proactive and reactive media relations, thought leadership development, and advancing perceptions of OKC through earned media. This role works across all departments within the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber and a wide variety of external stakeholders. Knowledge of communication strategies and tactics with an emphasis on media relations. Effective execution of a quality, highly-focused earned media and communications strategy. Effective project execution/management skills. Exceptional communications abilities, including strong written communication and knowledge of AP style. Collaborate with marketing and communications colleagues for storytelling and strategy. Lead internal team members to execute communication programs to support organizational media relations efforts. Assists in developing annual communication plans and budgets. Oversee a robust media and influencer hosting program, as well as media coverage reporting and evaluation. Build and maintain journalist and media outlet relationships across business, tourism, trade and other industry verticals. Oversees development of editorial calendars and communication plans, and execution of media relations strategy. Oversees analysis of media coverage, including internal efforts and PR agency scopes of work. Develop and implement talking points, thought leadership and points-of-view for the Chamber’s leadership team, as well as key civic issues. Provides strategic direction and oversight for presentations and speeches. Assist with implementation of organizational events, including developing and manage pre- and post-event communications to increase attendance and engagement in events and programs. Works with the Communications Director to develop and maintain communication standards, style guides and resources to support brand advocacy. Works with PR and advertising agency partners in the implementation of editorial and advertorial content, as needed. Maintain a good working relationship with vendors. Contributes to the total effectiveness of the department, communicating openly, solving problems proactively, offering creative ideas and working as a positive, engaged team member. Implement feedback and measurement systems for marketing and communications programs. Participate and support the organization’s strategic planning efforts. Performs other duties as assigned to carry out the responsibilities of the position, including special assignments.
