About The Position

The Media Prep Technician (MPT) at WPTV is responsible for overseeing studio operations and managing media preparation tasks within a hubbed master control environment. This role requires technical expertise and problem-solving skills to execute moderately complex work at the local station level, ensuring compliance with FCC regulations and maintaining broadcast quality.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
  • Generally, 2+ years of experience in a related field preferred
  • Specialized training/certification may be required
  • Working knowledge of Master Control in a broadcast television station
  • Proficiency with video servers, scopes, and switcher operations
  • Understanding of transmitter power parameters
  • Strong computer skills, including file transfer, storage, and transcoding processes
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and proactivity
  • Capacity to maintain composure and accuracy under exacting specifications and tight deadlines
  • Strong mathematical skills, particularly in addition and subtraction
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized
  • Eager, motivated, and reliable team player

Responsibilities

  • Observe, record, and operate transmitter power and frequency readings, adjusting them to legal limits if necessary, in accordance with FCC Rules and Regulations
  • Align satellite receiver dish, adjust audio and video levels, and record programs while downlinking satellite feeds
  • Dub commercials and programs into video servers with proper technical parameters
  • Load and play back pre-recorded programs, public service announcements, and news material
  • Record and ingest programs, promotions, public service announcements, and news material
  • May be responsible for the acquisition of satellite and ENG News remotes
  • Operate on-air automation equipment, master control switchers, and transmitter remote control
  • Read various scopes and other technical monitoring equipment
  • Troubleshoot and respond to malfunctioning electronic broadcast equipment needed for on-air operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
