About The Position

The Media & Journalism Specialist helps bring ECS’ mission to life by producing clear, compelling, and meaningful communications. Through storytelling, media relations, digital content, and advocacy support, this role advances ECS’ visibility, strengthens its messaging, and showcases its impact across the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communications, Public Relations, or a closely related field preferred. Candidates with degrees in these areas are likely to possess the foundational knowledge and skills crucial for success in this role.
  • Knowledgeable of AP Writing Style, Word, Excel, Website Content Management Systems, Social Media Platforms, Project Management Systems.
  • Courteous, reliable, willing to learn, ability to work independently, good verbal/written skills.
  • Please submit your resume and portfolio. Portfolios must include 3 written pieces and 2 video productions. File uploads (PDF, DOC, etc.) or a link to an online portfolio are acceptable.
  • Must pass criminal background check through, Live Scan fingerprinting, FBI and Department of Justice.
  • ECS requires pre-hire medical clearance including drug/alcohol and TB screening.

Responsibilities

  • Media & Journalism
  • Conduct field and remote interviews; attend press conferences and relevant events
  • Engage with clients, staff, donors, and community partners for storytelling and information-gathering
  • Handle client‑shared sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion
  • Research materials and fact‑check data to ensure accuracy
  • Brainstorm and research original content ideas to increase ECS visibility
  • Write press releases, media statements/advisories, articles, blogs, scripts, etc.
  • Prepare media kits and collateral
  • Support media coordination by attending media‑hosted events, cultivating relationships, seeking partnership opportunities, and distributing press materials
  • Digital & Multimedia Content
  • Update and maintain website content; support social media activities as needed
  • Produce and edit videos, podcasts, and multimedia content
  • Maintain content calendars; conduct research to inform content planning and messaging
  • Advocacy
  • Support the Board Advocacy Committee by preparing briefs, tracking government relationships, recording minutes, and attending community and partner meetings and events as needed
  • Strategic Communications & Operations
  • Assist in implementing communication campaigns aligned with ECS’ mission
  • Coordinate and support cross-departmental projects
  • Compile analytics and assist with performance reporting
  • Assist with purchasing and budgeting for communications projects
  • Support sensitive communications, including crisis‑related tasks
  • Other duties as assigned
