About The Position

We’re seeking a motivated and creative college intern to join our Development and Community Relations Department on a part-time basis, working two to three days per week. This internship offers hands-on experience in communications, media, and community relations. The intern will support both the Department’s Director and Media Specialist with organizing digital media assets, curating content for social media platforms, assisting with general administrative duties, and occasionally helping with maintenance and operations at our on-campus Museum. It is anticipated and expected that all functions of this position will be performed in a positive and respectful manner, with a strong focus on advancing the mission and vision of New Mexico School for the Deaf. The duties and competencies listed are comprehensive yet not all inclusive of this position.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Currently enrolled in Bachelor’s degree program or graduated with a Bachelor’s degree less than a year ago.
  • 2+ years’ experience in digital marketing/social media marketing (this can be personal and/or professional experience).
  • Mastery of the major social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics software including Facebook Insights, Google Analytics and Twitter Analytics to track audience engagement and campaign performance.
  • Experience with content management systems, word processor applications and image/video editing software.
  • Intermediate proficiency in American Sign Language.
  • Impeccable oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Possess strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suites, Adobe Acrobat Pro and can work independently on Mac and PC platforms.
  • Excellent internet research skills.
  • High degree of attention to detail in high-production office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills on telephone and in person.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, and the general public.
  • Proficiency in or willingness to learn American Sign Language required.
  • Writes clearly and informatively; varies writing style to meet needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating, curating, and editing engaging content for various media platforms, such as social media, websites, and internal communications.
  • Maintain and update a content calendar to ensure timely publication for various platforms.
  • Assist in the creation of visual assets, including graphics and videos, using tools like Canva or Adobe software.
  • Monitor social media channels for trending topics and relevant discussions.
  • Assist in responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Brainstorm and contribute to social media campaign ideas.
  • Analyze social media performance metrics to gauge success and suggest improvements.
  • Assist in creating performance reports for management.
  • Take photos/videos for various events and day-to-day happenings on campus.
  • Assist in maintaining, organizing, and cataloging various forms of media such as multimedia content and the digital asset management system and files including standardized naming, tagging, and storage of photo archives.
  • Support DCR staff in locating specific photos for community needs, press releases, brochures, and promotional materials.
  • Provide basic administrative support to help maintain the operations and functions of the DCR office.
  • Assist in proofreading materials and brainstorming design elements for multimedia projects.
  • Occasionally assist in making basic revisions to the website at the request of DCR staff.
  • Occasionally assist in maintaining the museum by monitoring exhibits, creating new ideas, and cataloging new and existing materials.
