About The Position

The Media Clerk position at Hopkins Elementary is designed to provide support to the local school media center under the supervision of the Media Specialist. The role is essential in ensuring a quality media program that offers media resources, facilities, and services to all areas of the instructional program. The Media Clerk will assist patrons with media center activities and technologies, maintain the media center collection, and perform clerical duties to support the media program. This position requires a strong commitment to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff alike.

Requirements

  • Parapro Educator certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and passed the Praxis Parapro Assessment or the GACE Parapro Assessment required.
  • Experience working with basic computers and technology required.
  • Knowledge of child development; strong interpersonal skills; strong organizational and clerical skills; working knowledge of office and media equipment; willingness to learn new technologies; ability to operate computers and Windows applications; and ability to work and communicate with students, staff, and the community.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with general productivity software such as a word processor preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children and adults preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support to the local school media center.
  • Assist patrons with media center activities and technologies.
  • Identify and gather appropriate media center resources as needed.
  • Work with Media Specialist to train and supervise volunteers and student assistants.
  • Facilitate a climate of respect encouraging a safe, welcoming and supportive environment.
  • Assist Media Specialist with special events.
  • Maintain familiarity of the media center collection.
  • Work with Media Specialist to implement safe, legal, and ethical use of information.
  • Encourage the use of multiple formats for reading and research.
  • Assist patrons with use of the online media catalog.
  • Support reading promotion through media center displays as directed.
  • Maintain electronic records in the online catalog.
  • Shelve and maintain correct order of materials.
  • Assist Media Specialist with the inventory of the media center collection and equipment.
  • Assist Media Specialist with the operation and maintenance of instructional equipment.
  • Repair media center materials as directed.
  • Create and submit maintenance requests for items managed by the media center.
  • Process media center materials and maintain routine record keeping as directed.
  • Ensure the media center is organized and orderly for optimal accessibility of resources.
  • Assist staff and students reserving media center space, equipment or resources.
  • Assist Media Specialist by running circulation and collection reports in the online media catalog.
  • Attend local and district professional learning opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
