Responsibilities include performing, evaluating, and monitoring laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated, and monitoring workflow to ensure timely completion of work. The position also involves evaluating results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness, following prescribed policies for reporting and notification of test results, and performing and documenting calibration, maintenance, and repair of instruments and equipment. The role requires recognizing indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction and implementing appropriate corrections. Quality control and quality assurance are critical components of the job, as is ensuring compliance with all accrediting agency standards. The position supports critical care departments by providing direct support and timely, accurate laboratory results during high acuity patient events.
